An evening for peace
- 2024/07/04 -

In the Basilica of Gethsemane, also known as the "Church of All Nations", a prayer for peace took place at night, in which we Sisters of St Charles also took part. In memory of the suffering of Our Lord, who spent the last hours before his capture and his Way of the Cross in agony on this spot on the Mount of Olives, our prayers were characterised by the longing for a universal end to war and violence, which so deeply moves all people of good will at this time, and how much did we hope that the visions expressed so wonderfully by King David in his Psalm 122 would be fulfilled, and how happy would we be if many pilgrims could once again enjoy the unique beauty of this city in the near future:

Peace to Jerusalem!
A song by David for festival visitors travelling up to Jerusalem.

O Jerusalem, you marvellous city,
how impregnable you are built!
All the tribes of the Lord go up to you -
All Israel will praise him there, just as he commanded.
Jerusalem, David's royal house reigns in you,
in you the king speaks justice.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
Whoever loves you shall prosper!
Peace shall reign behind your fortified walls,
and in your palaces people shall dwell in safety!
Because my relatives and friends are dear to my heart,
I wish you, Jerusalem, peace and happiness.
