Start of the year in St. Charles
- 2025/01/08 -
Our visit to our fellow sisters in Emmaus is a beloved tradition for our convent at the start of the year. On January 3rd, we spent time there in the dining room, which was lovingly decorated for Christmas, praying in front of the beautiful nativity scene before eating the delicious lunch prepared by Sister Klara. After drinking coffee together and exchanging many memories, we gratefully returned to St. Charles in the early evening.
The next day, we drove to Bethlehem with Father Jonas OSB, where he celebrated Holy Mass for us in the Grotto of the Nativity. This very special service was followed by some moments of prayer in St. Catherine's Church. A group of Ethiopian young people were among the few visitors to the Basilica of the Nativity on this January 4th of the new year.
Invitating our teachers and employees to a shared lunch, during which they are given small gifts, is also an integral part of our January program. This harmonious get-together allows us to look forward to the challenges that await us with hope. On January 6th, Epiphany, the star singers go from house to house in Germany and bring the message of blessing and peace from the newborn child to the residents. We also had Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar from our ranks as guests - they accompanied Pastor Cristian during the consecration of our house and all its rooms. And since the wise men from the East had laid their gifts in front of the manger in Bethlehem, we were also given some presents. After our three kings had been crowned, they were given the honor of delighting us with small gifts.
